I created KBeautyEditor for one simple reason: Korean beauty has become incredibly exciting—and incredibly confusing.

There’s always a new serum going viral, an ingredient suddenly appearing everywhere, a celebrity campaign making people curious, or another product promising to become the next K-beauty essential.

But popularity doesn’t automatically tell you whether a product makes sense for your skin, your routine, or your budget.

That’s where KBeautyEditor comes in.

I research Korean skincare products, ingredients, routines, beauty trends, and product comparisons with one goal:

to help global beauty shoppers understand what’s trending in Korea, what the claims actually mean, and what’s worth considering before they buy.

The goal isn’t to convince you that you need more skincare.

Sometimes the most useful answer is that two products do nearly the same job—or that the viral product everyone is talking about may not be necessary for your routine.

Meet Bonghee & Malsuk Halmae

KBeautyEditor also has two recurring characters: Bonghee and Malsuk Halmae.

Bonghee is curious, enthusiastic, and occasionally ready to put three nearly identical serums into her shopping cart because TikTok told her they were all essential.

Malsuk Halmae is the practical Korean grandmother who looks at that cart and asks the question Bonghee probably should have asked first:

“Do you actually need all of that?”

“Halmae” (할매) is an informal Korean word for grandmother, and her role is simple: cut through the hype and bring the conversation back to what actually matters.

Their conversations bring a little Korean humor and storytelling into otherwise complicated skincare topics.

Bonghee and Malsuk Halmae are fictional editorial characters created by KBeautyEditor. Their stories illustrate common beauty-shopping questions and are not personal testimonials or evidence of product use.

A Bonghee story might begin with a viral PDRN serum, a toner pad suddenly appearing everywhere, or a celebrity holding a new skincare product.

But that’s only the beginning.

The actual analysis is separate from the story.

KBeautyEditor looks at available product information, ingredient lists, official brand and retailer information, scientific research where relevant, regulatory information, and other credible sources.

Just as importantly, I try to distinguish between:

what is verified, what the available evidence suggests, what a brand claims, and what simply hasn’t been established yet.

If a celebrity appears in a skincare campaign, for example, that doesn’t automatically mean the product is part of their personal routine.

If an ingredient has interesting research behind it, that doesn’t automatically prove every product containing that ingredient will deliver the same result.

And if I haven’t personally tested something, I won’t pretend that I have.
